The vest is made from a few components: two PIR sensors, vibration motors and LEDs. The PIR sensors are used to detect the breathing pattern of the user. One monitors the breathing pattern at the chest and the other at the abdomen. The virbration motors are used to provide feedback when a unregular breathing pattern is detected. The LEDs are used to provide visual feedback to the user. The vest is designed to be worn by children with dysfunctional breathing symptoms. This is why the design is colorfull and has a lego module so childeren can customize the vest to their liking.
In the first stages of the prototype the breathing analysis was done in matlab, and there was no physical prototype. I helped to make the matlab code run on a microctontroller. Aswell as combine the sensors and actuators with the microcontroller. So making the LEDs and vibration motors work. Since this was a prototype to show the capabilities I also programmed some demo modes to show of the actuators. Helen van Rees designed and assemled the vest itself.
